Technical Bulletin #GS001

Applies to: All Green Scorpion™ based units

Re: Garbage on display.

Problem:

Sometimes when you check your system, there is random garbage on the display of your green scorpion control panel. This applies to all WERECON units except the C2G and C3G which do not incorporate the Green Scorpion™ Controls.

Cause:

The Green Scorpion™ uses two microprocessors. One controls the keypad and screen, and the other controls all other system functions. The processor that controls all main functions, incorporates a fault tolerant circuit called a watchdog timer. If that processor takes a power surge that causes it to lock up, it will reset itself automatically. The processor that controls the keypad and display, however, does not have this fault tolerant circuitry. If it takes a power surge, the display may become scrambled. Despite this fact, the processor that controls all other system functions is probably operating normally. You just cant tell what it is doing, due to the fact that the display is unreadable.

Resolution:

In order to correct this problem, simply cycle the power off and then back on at the rocker switch on the front panel, and the system should return to normal operation. Remember, that just because the display is unreadable, does not mean that the system is not operating normally. If this problem occurs on a regular basis, you may want to consider adding additional surge suppression circuitry to your system.
